Some brief reflections from the VanOss’ after being married for 6 months:
THIS never gets old – dancing in the kitchen while we cook. Van Morrison would often serenade us when we started dating, and lately we’ve been dancing to a good Ray Lamontagne radio station on slacker.com. There is something romantic and endearing about slowing down and romancing while you wait on that sauce to simmer – you know?
THIS is something we are getting better at — Coordinating the VanOss schedule! We’re also getting better at checking in with each other before we make plans – making sure we’re both on the same page for the week is pretty important.
THIS is something we are continually working on — Conflict Resolution! We’re learning the importance of “saying it like it is” when the other does something that we don’t like. We both tend to pout a little bit and wait for the other person to notice us instead of getting to the point quickly and saying what’s bothering us. Good old communication – always more to learn about there!
THIS is how we like to check in — Dates! We love adventures as much as anybody, but sometimes it’s really nice to do a date night at home with some grilled salmon, a bottle of wine, and a heated game of scrabble. No matter what we do, some of the best marriage advice I’ve heard is to “keep dating.” Sounds good to us.
THIS is something new and humbling — Serving together has been really great, too. It’s fun to work alongside your hubby and see them loving on other people besides yourself. We’ve had good times chatting with some of the sweet ladies we help make late night snacks for at Bethany’s homeless shelter.
We’re really thankful for the last 6 months together!
