… and almost doesn’t come back!
Yesterday, we spent the day driving the 33 mile loop around Crater Lake, a majestic blue lake that used to be Mount Mazama before its eruption 7,000 “ish” years ago. Our country has some pretty unbelievable parks! OK, on to Nutley (backstory: Ashley bought this stuffed squirrel for Tim when they were dating because she worked at REI and Tim has an odd facination for squirrels. Nutley squeaks when you squeeze his tummy)…
Nutley wanted to hike Mount Scott with us — the highest point in the park. Of course he also needed to have his picture taken at the top but as he was being held out he was bobbled and bounced down the side of the mountain. Tim climbed down to rescue our sweet child and mascot (sad, i know) wearing Ashley’s purple CK sunglasses and hiding from the park rangers. Ashley just laughed the whole time as Nutley was rescued in dramatic fashion. Whew, life goes on for a bruised Nutley and the VanOss’. After the hike and a short bike ride we hit the road, driving two lane highways into California.
Something in the air changed as soon as we hit Cali –so fresh and salty — and at the first beach we saw Ashley got out and rolled around in the sand. We got really lucky with our campsite — there is a spot we had heard about, Gold Bluff Campground, but it’s pretty hard to get spots because it’s in Redwood NP and it is literally ON the beach. We pulled up right at sunset and to our surprise we got one of two spots open!
