You hear the saying that a picture cannot capture a place or experience and I don’t think I have ever felt this more than our visit to Redwood NP. There is a peace and reverence to these forests of massive trees that is hard to capture in words or photograph. The scientific name for Redwoods is “sempervirens” which means everlasting — appropriate name as the trees bark alone can be up to a foot thick for protection.
After walking through several groves of Redwoods we hopped back in the good ole Subaru and hit the 101… we took a scenic detour down HWY 1 and drove along the coast where it was foggy and the air got cool. Cutting back east, we ended our day in Cloverdale, CA (a small town in wine country just north of Sonoma). Our friend Michelle got us Budget Travel as our wedding gift last year and we had read about Cloverdale as the second best small town in America. Sure enough when we called to make reservations at the B&B the magazine suggested, the innkeeper made sure we knew we were coming to the #2 best small town in America!
We walked to the little downtown Cloverdale last night and at a small outdoor concert there was a banner made just to let everyone know about the Budget Travel poll — #2 best small town in America, #1 in the West!
