Due to a few contributing factors including but not limited to — a busy labor day weekend to find campsites, college football game Saturday, and our friend PJ’s house — we decided to drive from Cloverdale, CA to Reno, NV last Saturday afternoon. We rolled in to Reno and PJ greeted us with Paula Dean’s sweet tea, cold beer, and a flat screen showing the Husky game… we knew we had made a good decision.
Of course the highlight of Reno was the fact that we made it there for the “Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off,” an annual 6 day international rib-fest that draws over half a million people. They say over 1.4 million bones worth of pork ribs are consumed each year. Yowza.
Tank of gas for Cloverdale-to-Ren0 excursion- $35
Plate of “Kick-Ass Fries” (fries covered with pulled pork and bbq sauce) – $9
Ashley’s try (and failure) at the penny slots at the Nugget Casino – $5
Time with a great friend and the freedom to make unplanned side trips to fun places like Reno – priceless!
