Brooks got his first road trip under his 5 month old belt and got to meet both his great grandmothers, his granddad, aunt, uncle, and cousin just to name a few! (forewarning: this post if filled with pictures and there are links at the end to some pretty epic videos on our youtube):
We packed up our new car (well new to us – went from an old black Subaru to a “newer” black Subaru), and headed south the first weekend in June. Our first stop was in Fairfield, OH where Brooks got to meet his Great-Grandmother Peggy (or GG) and got the added bonus of seeing his grandma VanOss again! We spent the night and enjoyed a fun visit.
Then, we made it down to Knoxville! Granddad Beau was excited to finally have another boy around:
A highlight of the trip was definitely seeing Brooks meet his cousin Marion and how wonderfully sweet they were together! It is so fun to think that cousins are built-in friends for life and this was the beginning of a long friendship. I think one of the moments when Marion really warmed up to Brooks was when she helped give him a bath one night in her pink bath tub; She scrubbed his right leg for about 10 minutes!
There is something about the south, as distant as I feel from it sometimes, that welcomes me home and I was excited for Brooks to experience it. One day we “hiked” from my sister’s house to Ijam’s Nature center —
One day we went out on Watt’s Bar Lake with my parents —
Definite highlight: Brooks got to meet his other Great Grandmother, Nammy! There were lots of smiles all around:
And a rare family photo (even though Brooks doesn’t seem amused):
Tim had to drive back Tuesday to get back to work, but Brooks and I got to stick around Knoxville and spend the week with friends and family. I got to have an amazing girls night with friends that go all the way back to Kindergarten! We had many belly laughs and I am thankful for girlfriends who go back a lifetime. We had wonderful family – Sara, Donna, Kenny, Dorcas, and Joe – come over for dinner one night. All in all, Brooks got to be around some great people who love him “almost” as much as we do. What a gift.
As promised, I have to leave you with some epic videos:
THIS one is when Brooks and I were in the Nashville airport about to fly home. He is just slap happy and thankfully fell asleep soon after for the flight.
THIS one is Marion being sweet and helping Brooks find his Bobby tags (Bobby’s are aidan and anias blankets in our family). For some reason this one makes me laugh so hard and I don’t know why.
THIS is a song Marion made up about Baby Brooks. Please note she is wearing her gardening gloves.
And finally, leave you with one more sweet cousin moment. Marion went out and asked Brooks if he wanted to come inside one night… then proceeded to try to pick him up out of the jumparoo even though she is only 10 lbs heavier:
